Outlet & Switch Installation
New Outlets, GFCI Upgrades, Smart Switches
Adding outlets where you need them, upgrading two-prong to grounded three-prong, installing GFCI protection in kitchens and bathrooms, and wiring smart switches and dimmers. Licensed, insured, to code.
What outlet and switch installation covers
Outlet and switch work is the most common residential electrical service call. It covers adding new outlets in rooms that don’t have enough (home offices, kitchen islands, garage workshops), replacing old two-prong ungrounded outlets with modern grounded three-prong receptacles, installing GFCI outlets in wet locations (kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, garages, exteriors), upgrading to USB-equipped outlets, and wiring smart switches, dimmers, and three-way switch circuits.
The wiring behind the outlet matters more than the outlet itself. Ahmad checks the circuit capacity before adding outlets (you can’t just daisy-chain indefinitely), confirms the grounding path when upgrading from two-prong to three-prong (a ground wire has to actually go somewhere), and installs GFCI protection at the correct points in the circuit so downstream outlets are also protected.
For older homes with ungrounded wiring, the options are GFCI protection (which provides shock protection without a ground wire) or running a new grounded circuit from the panel. Ahmad explains both options and the trade-offs — GFCI is cheaper but doesn’t provide surge protection; a new circuit costs more but gives you a proper ground. You decide, he installs.
